About Pixar:

Pixar was founded in 1979 when Ed Catmull was recruited by George Lucas from the New York Institue of Technology. Thus Lucas films was made! Lucas wanted to create a digital film editing system, a digital film printer, and discover more on computer graphics.

1983, John Lasseter was invited to join the graphics group at Lucas Films. The group began working on their first short The Adventures of Andre & Wally B. Later that year Lasseter was hired to work as an interface designer full-time. in 1984 The Adventures of Andre & Wally B. was completed and featured at SIGGRAPH ( an annual conference on computer graphics created by the AMC SIGGRAPH orginization) The short featured several new technologies such as complex flexible characters, hand painted textures and motion blurs.

 In 1986 Steve Jobs (co founer of Apple products) purchased the computer graphics division from George Lucas and starts an idependent company that we now know as Pixar. As a result about 44 people are employed.

Later this year the group finnishes their second short animation. This time the animation is dubed Luxo Jr. This became the first three dimensional computer animated film to be nominated for an Oscar® .

The Company created about three more short films then Disney approahed Pixar and made an agreement in 1991 "to make and distribute at least one computer-generated animated movie"

1995 Pixar and Disney released Toy Story which was a huge turning point for computer animation. this became the worlds first computer animated feature film released in theaters. Toy Story became the highest grossing film of 1995 bringing in $192 million in the U.S. and $362 million around the world. It was nominated for Best Original song, Best Original score, and Best Original Screenplay by the Acadamy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 1996 Toy Story received an award for the "frist feature-length computer animated film."

Remember how in 1986 Pixar had about 44 employees? By 1997 they acquired a total of 375 employees. Also Disney and Pixar announced they will be producing 5 more movies together.

Pixar created yet another award winning short, this time named Geri's Game. Once again Pixar received the Best Animated Short Film Acadamy Award

1998 Disney and Pixar released their second movie together. A Bugs Life was released thanks giving week and broke all previous U.S. thanks giving weekend B.O. records. 

Just three years later Toy Story 2 was released in theaters. It is the first film in history to be completely created, mastered and exhibited digitally, it was also the first sequal to gross more than the first installment.

2000 Pixar completes For the Birds and premieres at a film festival in France and won an award for Best Animated Short Film. In November the company decides to upgrade their building and move to Emeryville, CA.

2001 Monsters, Inc. was released and reached over $100 million in domestic box-office in just 9 days. Pixar now has over 600 employees and Ed Catmull is made Pixar's President.

2003 Finding nemo was released and received an Oscar and was nominated for four Acadamy Awards. 

2004 Pixar released The Incredibles  and its first weekend box office of over $70 million which broke all Pixar records. the film was nominated for four Acadamy Awards and won two more films

Cars was released in 2006  and won an acadamy award and two more awards

2007 Ratatouille was released for five acadamy awards and an Oscar

2008 WALL-E was released and won an acadamy awardsand an oscar

2009 Up  was released

2010 Toy story 3  was released

2011 Cars 2 was released

2012  Brave was released

2013  Monsters University was released
